About Sofia

Sofia is a psychotherapist in Manhattan. As a native New Yorker, Sofia has a strong understanding of the desire and drive many have to succeed, and the pressure that comes along with it. She works with teens and adults with depression, anxiety and eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder.

Sofia’s orientation as a therapist is psychodynamic, which is a way of understanding yourself that is rooted in early life experiences and unconscious processes. Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps one put words to their current experience by exploring their early life, especially childhood and family dynamics. She also integrates behavioral interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help her patients address present-day patterns and difficulties.

In the treatment of eating disorders, Sofia works from a HAES-informed approach and utilizes Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E) and DBT skills. She provides Family-Based Treatment (Maudsley) to adolescents and their families.

Sofia’s past professional experiences include working adolescents with mood and anxiety disorders, 9/11 survivors, and adults with chronic medical conditions.

In addition to her private practice, Sofia is the clinical director of a small group practice in New York City, Lexington Psychotherapy.
